Athina Mary Livanos Onassis Spencer-Churchill Niarchos (19 March 1929 – 10 October 1974) was the second daughter of Greek shipping magnate Stavros Livanos and Arietta Zafirakis. Athina became prominently known a being the first wife of Aristotle Onassis. When marriage came to an end, Athina married her older sister Eugenia's widower, Stavros Niarchos. Athina was the eldest child with a younger brother.

Known as Tina, she was married three times. Her husbands were: Aristotle Onassis, John Spencer-Churchill, Marquess of Blandford, Stavros Niarchos.

After her divorce from Aristotle Onassis, Livanos dropped her married name and used her maiden name, until her marriage to the Marquess of Blandford.

Tina Niarchos died of a drug overdose in Paris, where she was living with her third husband Stavros Niarchos. During their marriage, she suffered the loss of her 24-year-old son Alexander in a plane crash. Her only living descendant became her granddaughter, Athina Onassis de Miranda.

Christina, sued her mother's widower for her mother's estimated US$250 million (in 1974 dollars) estate claiming the marriage should be annulled under Greek law. Christina later dropped the lawsuit and Niarchos returned all of the money as well as Livanos's jewellery, artwork and other personal effects.

There has been reference of the Onassis family Curse.

In the Onassis family there have been young deaths with family tradeg - Alexander was only 24 when he was killed in a plane crash. Christina Onassis also died young and what a tragedy a woman who was so wealthy, yet deeply unhappy to have become a magnet for gold diggers too.

Christina Onassis funeral was held at My family Church in New Smyrna, Athens Greece. Her father, Aristotle was born in Smyrna (now known as Izmir) where my Grandmother's family came from. Many relatives were killed - Greek children and grandchildren do not all know about this.

The Bell Tower at Saint Fortini Greek Orthodox Church in New Smyrna was paid for by Aristotle Onassis - This was made to be the replica of the Saint Fortini Cahthedral in Smyrna before the great fire in 1922. There is history...Greek History! Nothing is lost forever.

There has been for a many years inheritance disputes with Onassis family A complicated set up of trustees were to prevent young Athina being exploited. Evidently it was with the best of intentions this was set up and yet it is so easily can this not work in the beneficiary's favour.

Only about 2005 did I learn about the great fire in Smyrna 1922. My grandmother spoke of important papers being destroyed that were held at the office.

My Greek Grandmother told me Aristotle Onassis was from Smyrna. His widely publicised affair did not do him any favours. His relationship with a known singer could not be hidden. .

Athina Livanos also died young. Athina, her granddaughter has been given her grandmother's name - a tradition, perhaps so she will never forget her roots and where she came from.

There are people who say Athina has no family of her own. The young woman has a family of Greek people, some who recognise her loss. The love poured out towards young Athina when her mother died was most natural because she had her mother stolen from her prematurely.

So much tragedy...so much has happened in history.

ATHINA SHIP BEING PLACED ON THE SANDS. This would have been the year after my mother had been born in Athens, Greece - Athena is named as the City of Athens in Greece.

While my mother's cousin, Athina, married a ships captain, the architect would live out her life in a wheelchair mostly homebound while raising their only daughter.

My mother Athena became paralysed from the neck downwards as a young woman who lived out the rest of her life in a wheelchair - totally dependant on help and loving support.

What are the odds of people with the same name, with family ties to one of the ancient communities of people identified in the Holy Bible - Smyrna would be impacted, to become disabled.

There is a Greek family trait of blue hair, blue eye children and also dark hair dark eyes. Young Athina was referred to the' light haired one' in translation - inherited from Athina her grandmother.

Names have a reason and family connections not known.

One day I was told Aristotle sold the family cookie recipe. A recipe passed down through the family -....then also I found an old photograph of the young Aristotle Onassis...

Sometimes facial features are inherited by family members in future generations.

While Aristotle was not considered to be important as a young man, he made his wealth later on. What if one role he played in this life was also to keep the memory of old Smyrna alive.

We are all born from our mother's womb...and within her ovary, our mother was already a seed within our grandmother's womb. With love, this is why so many of us were close to our grandmother.

Women have held a vital role in their family and within their community,even beyond. This did not change even if the women were being physically debilitated. Their daughters perhaps became more conscious and concientious human beings because of experiencing this awareness.
